All Elementary Schools
Students are given a leadership opportunity to provide support to their fellow students and take on responsibilities which will strengthen their character. Tri-Board provides the training sessions at the school along with the support of local Police Officers. Students enjoy an opportunity to learn about responsibility, cooperation and teamwork. Students are required to participate in hands on training outside on the bus.
The school bus driver is always in charge and he/she is ultimately responsible for the safety of the school bus and passengers. All passengers, including bus patrollers must obey the direction of the school bus driver at all times. The primary role of the bus patroller is to help the bus driver transport passengers to their destination in a safe and orderly fashion and to:
- Assist younger children when entering and exiting the school bus.
- Assist younger children to cross the street when getting on and off the bus. (The driver has the discretion to determine if there may be a stop where a patroller should not exit the bus).
- To help children and the driver in the event of an emergency and evacuation situation.
- Students are trained on how to safely ride the school bus, load and unload students safely and what to do in the event of an emergency bus evacuation. The students are trained to look and listen. If there are any problems on the bus, the bus patroller will speak with the driver at the next stop, or to the school principal once at the school.
