First Time Rider Program

All Elementary Schools Participate

First Time Rider is a school bus safety program designed to educate first time riders and their parents/guardians on bus safety. This interactive learning opportunity is specifically focused on school bus safety for the first time rider.

  • Upon request by the school a presentation will be arranged through Tri-Board for all new JK/SK students and their parents/guardians. The program, held at the school, is presented by one of our local school bus operators. Students and their parents/guardians are instructed on school bus safety rules and why these rules need to be followed.
  • Students are taught the following safety procedures: how to cross the road safely, proper loading and unloading the bus, acceptable behaviour on the bus and how to exit the bus in the event of an emergency. To reinforce these safety rules a “First Time Rider” video will be available for review. Each student will be provided with a colouring book and parents receive safety brochure handouts including why the bus is such a safe vehicle.
  • The “First Time Rider Program” participation is recommended for new JK/SK students and their parents/guardians. All arrangements are to be made through the Tri-Board office. The presentation expense for this program is covered by Tri-Board.
